Rockin’ the World of Technology

Archive for the ‘Communications’ Category

Communication is a vital aspect of almost everything in this world. And to be able to cope up in this fast changing and demanding world, technology is here to further develop existing communication systems to make it faster and better in every side of it. Now, digital phone systems dominate businesses that have required replacements of the old phone systems to cope up with the tough competitions in the business world.

Just a note: Whatever it is that you cash out for your business should be carefully planned especially if your business processes could be greatly affected by it. Phone systems are just a few of the many things you need to avail where you need to choose among so many providers that could make or break your business. With this, you should have a competitive list of providers so you could land the best deal available.

One of the things you need to consider when choosing the digital phone system you will avail for is the kind of communication you’d be guaranteed of. Technological advancements such as telephone systems for communication should make business transactions easier and better, not the other way around. Make sure the phone system you will avail would serve its purpose.

Technology bloggers and cellphone addicts have seen and heard about Nokia’s first full touchscreen phone, codenamed ‘Tube’ for months already. Most of the public though, first saw the phone in the hands of Morgan Freeman, who played Lucius Fox in the Batman epic The Dark Knight.

In the Dark Knight, it has features that well, let’s accept it, are nowhere near reality. But in real life, it still has enough going for it to grab a good portion of the sales pie.

The ‘Tube’, officially the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic, is Nokia’s first touchscreen only phone. It runs Symbian S60, modified for touch input of course, and uses a resistive touchscreen with haptic feedback. See, unlike the iPhone, this Nokia vibrates to let the user know that the key input has been accepted, that’s pretty neat if you ask me. It also comes with a pick-shaped stylus though, so no worries if you don’t like using your fingers.

As is the case for all XpressMusic branded phones, the 5800’s main focus is music playback. For this, it has a bundled 8 GB microSD card, a 3.5 mm jack, and excellent audio quality.

If you’re looking for a music phone with a touchscreen that is not an iPhone, then the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic could be just right for you.

Palm Pre

Posted by admin in Communications, Mobile, Software

In the months leading to this year’s Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, nobody would have thought that a company many people thought would go under in a while would be the darling of the show.

Palm, was in many ways mired in mediocrity for several years now. Its Treo line of smartphones, which at one time was the king of them all, was struggling for market share (heck, it was struggling for attention, what with the likes of HTC and of course Apple offering seemingly better phones). And of course, its Garnet operating system was aging really badly, having technical limitations that most if not all of its competitors have overcome.

Enter the Palm Pre, with Palm’s all new WebOS. In a bid to combat the iPhone’s dominance, Palm’s engineers made a phone with a capacitive touchscreen that is as responsive as the iPhone’s, then also included a qwerty keyboard for those averse to touch-typing. In other words, Palm gives consumers the best of both worlds: multi-touch, plus physical keys.

In the software department, Palm’s all new WebOS boasts of features that Apple’s iPhone could only dream of, like copy and paste, and real multi-tasking.

From a bleak outlook to a bright future in one fell swoop, Palm has recaptured the imagination of the tech world with its new Pre.

Several years ago, Motorola and Kodak, two huge long known for innovation and leadership in their respective fields, signed a partnership. The deal meant to bring Kodak’s imaging expertise to Motorola’s phones to try to fight the Nokia-Carl Zeiss partnership, as well as Sony-Ericsson’s Cyber-shot solutions which it borrowed from it’s Japanese parent.

Well, the first product of that partnership is here. The new Motorola MotoZINE ZN5 sports a 5 megapixel camera with autofocus, a xenon flash, and of course, that all-important Kodak imaging software.

One look at this phone’s camera and you know that it means business. The first sign that it does: Kodak branding on it. And it does protrude from the phone’s rear, thankfully, in a good way.

As said earlier, the lens is flanked by a powerful xenon flash which is great for taking pictures in the dark. The Kodak imaging software helps improve the picture quality a lot, and Motorola were kind enough to include wifi in the phone to make it easy to upload photos to Kodak’s photo sharing community.

Aside from imaging, the ZN5 also has Motorola’s ModeShift technology, that is this phone also has a morphing keypad ala MOTOROKR E8.

There are 8 megapixel phones coming soon, but for now, your best bet for best imaging in a phone is probably this, the MotoZINE ZN5.

In these tough economic times, you have every right to question Motorola for releasing a phone that costs north of US$ 2,000. The fact that the phone is not exactly class-leading in terms of features is not an encouraging sign. So, expensive phone with not enough features…means trouble for Motorola, right?

Well, that would be the case if we’re talking about an ordinary phone. The thing is, we’re not.

Say hello to Motorola’s newest wonder, the MOTOAURA.

The AURA is the first phone in the world that has an integrated circular display. Oh no, this isn’t a regular screen that was put into a circular bezel. This baby is for real. Check out the screen and you will that the screen is indeed circular, covering every inch of space.

Well, what’s so special about a circular screen? Well, it gives Motorola the chance to put stunning screensavers into the phone. When you see the clocks Moto put into this phone, you would think it really is an expensive watch.

Speaking of watches, the circular screen isn’t the only thing in this phone that pays homage to expensive timepieces. Look at the back of the phone and you see three gears. These facilitate the AURA’s rotating cover, in a sexy, totally mechanical way.

Yes, these are tough times. But with the AURA, Motorola may just be able pull it off…its target market is probably insulated from the crisis anyway…lucky blokes.
